Peter Martin Lampel (1894–1965), real first names Joachim Friedrich Martin, volunteered for war service in 1914, and later became an air pilot. He was an artist and social-worker. The original name of the play was ‘Revolt Im Erziehungshaus’ (1929).
The Gate Theatre studio was a small, but famous, west end theatre and a number of famous stars had their début there, including Trevor Howard, the film actor, who, while still a student, made his professional debut in 1934 in 'Revolt in a Reformatory'.
